River's Cross Says Goodbye.
Dear Members and Friends of River’s Cross Anglican Church,
The time has come for River’s Cross to say goodbye
The Leadership Team expresses our sincere gratitude and thanks for all who have partnered with us in the work of the Lord during these last six years and to inform you that our Pastor, Stephen Nicholls, has submitted his resignation, effective August 10, 2014. Pastor Steve’s last service will be Sunday, July 27, 2014. We truly thank Stephen and Audrey for sharing their spiritual journey with us during these years. Please keep them in your prayers as they seek God’s direction and will for their future ministry.
Over these years, the good news of Jesus Christ was declared, souls were reached through Alpha, two ordinations to the priesthood, orphans were helped in San Salvador and Rwanda. Israel was blessed with our support to the relocation of Ethiopian Jews to their true homeland, we supported our troops in Afghanistan, blessed mothers and young children with the Little Blessings Thrift Store, the sick were healed and the poor were fed by the Five Loaves Food Pantry. We sent disciples to Switzerland to teach and reach out to those looking for answers to life; we prayed and worked hard to secure the Livingstone Monastery as a viable ministry, which of course you know did not happen. All this occurred in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ecclesiastes 3 tells us, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” As church membership declined, so did giving. Additionally, it seems that we lost vision and purpose as a church since we left the monastery. Therefore, the Leadership Team has decided in prayer that our season as River’s Cross Church has come to an end. Our last service will be Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 10:00am in the Dream House, 127 Harpersville Road, Newport News.
One bright light is that Brother Tim Luken will continue to operate the Five Loaves Food Pantry at Olivet Church and can be reached at LivingstoneMonastery.org
As we give thanks in this final farewell to all with whom we have had the privilege to partner in Newport News and beyond; we pray that you have been blessed even as we have been blessed. All of us will go on to serve the Lord in many different ways and we leave you with this thought: In Ecclesiastes 11, it states, “He has made everything beautiful in its time,” and He will stay the course if we continue to seek His face in prayer and adoration.
God Bless all who have touched our lives.
Your friends from River’s Cross.
We offer a sacred space to worship and grow in ministry to the Lord within the liturgical framework of the Anglican tradition, honoring the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the authority of the Holy Scriptures and the celebration of Holy Eucharist. If you don't know what any of that means, we offer a safe place from which you can begin your discovery through small group meetings for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. Our Sunday worship is filled with the joy of the Lord and sound teaching, and is followed by a mealtime for food, fellowship, and witness.
We are an Anglican mission congregation in Newport News, Virginia, located on the lower peninsula in the Hampton Roads area. Click here for a map and directions to our campus. We would love to meet and worship with you!
