First Time To River’s Cross

What to expect My First Service

In short, we begin with a time of worship mostly using contemporary songs and sometimes more traditional hymns; some songs are led with guitar and other instruments, and others with piano. We read Scripture, pray and celebrate Holy Communion every week. There is liturgy (prayers that are read such as the Lord’s prayer), but we are not a very formal or ‘high’ church. There are some elements which may be looked upon as more ‘catholic’ and leaders do wear basic vestments (robes) and we would describe ourselves as ‘casual.’

What Do I Wear?

Some wear jeans, khakis or skirts, and others wear suits; some wear polos, button-downs, blouses and others t-shirts. We feel it is most important that you come who you are, and as you are.

What’s Expected Of Me When I Show Up?

We will not ask you to speak, give financially, or stand up. Please just come in, participate at your comfort level, and see what God is doing. Afterwards we have lunch together and we would love for you to stick around if you want to. We look forward to getting to know you. (Lunch is provided by members who team up and take turns). We do take an offering during the service but you are not required to give unless you want to.

Do I Need To Bring A Bible?

Sure, if you have one and want to, that's great. It can help you understand the teaching and where to find it again later. It’s not a requirement.

Can I Take Communion At River’s Cross?

In keeping with Christian theology and tradition, anyone who is a baptized believer in Jesus Christ can take part in Communion. If you are not yet baptized, or have not yet placed your trust in Christ, you are welcome to come forward during communion for prayer of blessing, or you can remain seated until you are ready to make a decision to be baptized or trust Christ.

What Are The Ages Of Those Who Attend?

We are a church in a new start-up phase. We have a complete cross-section of ages including young people, students, singles, and families with kids. We are also very thankful for older couples and individuals full of wisdom and maturity, many who (like PILLARS) who hold up our body. We are a spiritual FAMILY not only needing sons and daughters, but also spiritual parents and grandparents.

What kind of programs are offered for my children and youth?

On Sunday mornings, children from kindergarten through elementary school are released from worship immediately before the sermon to children’s Sunday school. Parents are welcome to keep their children with them for the entirety of the service, if they wish. There is a nursery for wee babies that is available throughout the service for parents to take their children at any time.

Our goal is to raise children and teens to be disciples of Christ and future leaders for Him in the world. Everything we do – whether on Sunday morning or during the week – is to provide a positive, safe and Christ-centered place for kids to grow in favor with God and man.
