To our servicemen and women. As you and your families make great sacrifices for us and our country, we offer you support in the following ways:
Prayer Support for Non-Deployed Personnel
As you make your prayer requests known by email, we will make a commitment to pray for your loved one or need on at least a weekly basis. While your prayer requests are given to a team of intercessors, the information you share will be treated in a confidential and respectful manner. Your prayer needs will be processed by one person who will give the prayer team only what they need to pray effectively.
Prayer Support For Deployed Personnel
As you make your prayer requests known by email, we will make a commitment to pray for your loved one or need on a daily basis. While your prayer requests are given to a team of intercessors, the information you share will be treated in a confidential and respectful manner. Your prayer needs will be processed by one person who will give the prayer team only what they need to pray effectively.
Support For Families of Deployed Personnel (Only for those in the Hampton Roads Area)
When your loved ones are far away there are times when you need some extra help. Home handyman stuff, auto maintenance, or any way that we can as a church provide help. Where we can’t help we will try to find help. We can only provide this ministry to those in our local area because of distance and resources. Contact our office or call (757) 272-0199. Verification of deployment will be required as non-military individuals try to access this help.
Marriage Preparation
Being far away from home can make marriage preparation difficult. However marriage preparation not only makes for a good beginning, but can help lay a foundation for success with your marriage and family. We can always find a way to help you prepare for your lives together and you can make an appointment by contacting our office.
PTSD Ministry
We know that not all the wounds of war are visible, but they are real. We offer sensitive and caring ministry through the healing power of God to those who are suffering the effects of PTSD. Appointments can be arranged by contacting the parish secretary.
Get Involved
Staying connected to your spiritual family strengthens your life and blesses ours. We encourage you to participate in the life and ministry of River’s Cross even if your time in our area is short. Many of you have left ministries from your last assignment, so arrange to talk with Pastor Steve as to how you can continue to bless the Lord together with us.
Our Current Support Project

We are collecting items to send to DJ Stanhope for distribution to our troops in Kuwait. Food items include: nuts, oatmeal, crackers & cheese, peanut butter crackers, jerky, chips, pretzels, hot chocolate, single-serving cereal, candy (not chocolate from April - October), popcorn, cookies, and single serving drink mixes. Personal or travel size items in great demand include: chapstick (plain), hand lotion & moisturizer, shaving cream, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sunblock, baby wipes, and hand sanitizer. This is an ongoing project and we will ship out boxes as they are filled up! Please contact us directly if you have items to be picked up or any questions.
